You Are Not Your Thoughts
You are not your thoughts.
Thoughts are created by your brain.
You are, also, not your brain. You have a brain, but you are not a brain.
Your brain is like a computer: it needs input to give you want you want. If you don’t tell it what you want, it just starts producing thoughts - some of which are nonsense and/or low quality.
Here is a classic playlist of nonsense thoughts that most of us have had at one point or another:
Who do you think you are?
I can’t do that.
That is impossible.
Stress is part of life.
I don’t have enough time.
I’m too skinny / fat / ugly / pretty / poor / wealthy / etc. to do that.
What will people think?
I can’t be alone.
and last but not least,
If I don’t stay in this job I’ll end up a bag lady living on the street.
Press pause on that playlist. Create a new one with higher quality thoughts.
Try these on for size:
I am a good, kind, well-meaning person.
I can do that.
Whatever comes my way, I can figure it out.
My life is what I choose to make it.
I am resourceful.
I’m the perfect person to do that.
What people think is none of my business.
I create my life, one desicion at a time.
and, last but not least,
I AM THE BOSS OF ME!
Make your own list of thoughts that feel good. Challenge yourself to think positively about yourself. Really go for it - no one is looking at that list but you.
Then, practice those thoughts. Feel the shift in yourself. Would love to hear the positive thoughts you come up with in the comments below.
And, remember, you’re worth it!!
